Thumbs down AP1 Sound System problems

Hi guys
recently i got a sub and amp professionally installed to the standard head unit

the sub is a pioneer in a pioneer sealed box
the amp is a 600 watt schneider
i also have 2 3 way 6"s in the front calrions

i used to have a schneider sub installed but it had a hole in the rubber and in time gave up.

i recently changed it for a pioneer and as of the moment i installed the pioneer the amp power light will blink from "green PWR" to "red PROTECT".... and this is constantly.

whether i turn the car or HU on or off it will still do the same thing... i have dropped the gain and crossover from the sub down to lower its power but still doing the same thing.

sound will come on for not only 1/2 a second and go off contantly, even radio it does the same thing.

im not sure what to do now cause i dont know if its the amp, sub or Head unit.

all fuses have been checked and they are all fine...

please help if possible.

thanks

Is it possible you have the speaker wired so that it is below the minimum impedance for the amp?

You've got an overload. What are the specs of the old and new sub?

If the resistance of the new sub is too low then you are pumping more amps than the amp can handle.

Either that or you have a short.

the schneider was roughly at 100 - 150w RMS
The pioneer is at 150 - 200w RMS
it is also bridged on 2 OHM to the sub

ohh and the pioneer is a dual voice coil whist the schneider is a single voice coil

auss2000, good suggestion.

I think that you should definately check your power and ground.

disconnect the subwoofer from the amp. Leave the remote wire in. Turn on the headunit, which should then power on the amplifier. Does the red light still come on?

Aus could be right, is the amp stable at 2ohm bridged??

If without the sub the red light still comes on you have a power issue or perhaps popped a fuse. Check your fuses.

if your sound is coming in and out it sounds like your amp is clipping.

have you used the right size guage wire? 4 guage? 8 guage?

also, since you connected up the sub amp, did it ever work ok? or hasn't worked correctly since you plugged it in?

If there was some sort of overload, take out the power wires into the amp and check them (disconnect from battery terminal first so you dont short out anything!!!). Once i had a bit of an overload, stopped the amp from coming on and i removed the power wires to reseat them and noticed that they were burnt/singed which would of created a bad connection. IF so then strip the wire again, clean the amp terminals and join with clean bit of wire.

What else would help is to get a multimeter. You can then check the power to see if there is an issue anywhere along the lines.........

ok, how have you wired up your subbie???

check this site, make sure taht you have wired it up the correct way to get the correct resistance (ohms)

Sounds like a grounding problem...
