AP2 Head unit install
So I just finished installing my Pioneer MVH-8200BT
I bought the adaptor to save myself some time however when I turned the key, I was getting no power to the stereo. Checked all the fuses, rechecked the wiring, looked at the wiring diagram and nothing seemed to make sense. At this point I borrowed a voltmeter and realized I was getting no power from my 12v.
I then tried testing this out by only plugging in the bigger harness back into the stock unit. Turns out my power was coming from the smaller harness which I read was for the CD changer? (Correct me if Im wrong)
Anyway, I ended up connecting my power to that harness and leaving the rest in with the larger harness.
I couldnt find anyone else who had this issue.
Anyone care to chime in. The car is an 04 model.

The modifry harness. The one with the wires for the DCI. I figured I'd get that considering I plan on adding back the dash controls
Dont think the harness was the issue though. The power from the oem harnesses was coming from the smaller one of the two rather than the larger harness with the speaker wires etc.

If you're talking about this harness the issues may be due to fact that it's specifically made for Alpine head units. The large OEM plug (that includes speaker connections) should have both a 12v and switched 12v line in it. It sounds like you might need to reconnect those wires for however the Pioneer plug is set up.
If my reading of the CD changer installation info is correct, there is no
way for the CD changer harness to supply power to the headunit in a stock
installation. I believe the headunit supplies power to the changer.
If the +12v for the headunit and the +12v pin for the changer are simply
ganged together, then if one attached +12v to the changer end of the cable
it would make it to the headunit, but that's not the normal wiring.
How did you measure that you did not have +12v from the big connector?
Did you check both the white/red (switched, must have the ignition on) and
white/blue (constant) wires against a known good ground?
If the black harness ground wire was what you checked against, and it was
bad, you'd show no voltage, and by hooking up the changer cable you might
get an alternate ground.
Do you have a CD changer installed?

I dont have the CD player. I tested all the oem harnesses at the point of connection to the harness socket. I wasnt getting the +ve 12v from there. I tested the CD changer harness and seemed to get power from there instead. So i spliced into that to get the power to the unit. The unit seems to be working fine. I also grounded the parking brake sensor with a switch to bypass the video safety feature which worked fine.
I was just wondering what the hell was going on with the actual bigger socket
