Default Ap2 plug on driver's side in trunk -- anything I can do with this?

It's so difficult to find information that isn't convoluted with other stuff, so I'm asking the real simple question:

Is the plug in the trunk (drivers side white plug wrapped in foam/tape) of my ap2 good for anything that will allow me to plug in my iphone for sound? 1/8" or ipod hookup?

I've looked in to the usaspec solution and it seems you have to plug it in to the back of the head-unit. I don't want to remove the center console or head unit and am just looking for a quick and non-fm-transmitter solution.

+1 for using the usa-spec adapter with that plug, the only problem I have now is wiring the ipod wire to the cabin to a good location
