Thumbs up Audio ?'s

I have a "high quality" (not boomy) system in my other car. Now that I have an S2k, i'd like something much stronger than the stock stereo. I'm happy to find DJQube's DCI, giving me alot of freedom in head units... but to start with, I think i'll probably just need to stick to something for the low end. I want something immediately useable, but also compatible with an aftermarket stereo... so I was thinking of getting a powered sub small enough to fit under/behind the passenger seat, with speaker level and rca inputs. Anyone done this? is it enough to satisfy you for a while, or is it not worth it without a new head unit?

Well for a little bit of bass and I mean a little bit I would recomend an rsx sub. It fits in the spare wheel and is relatively cheap. You should be able to pick one up for no more then $75 bucks. As for better speakers I went with Focals and they sound amazing. Now for price on those your looking more around $200-350.

There's an electronics forum for this kind of topic.

For immediate use in the front you'd be best just to start with a powerful Head Unit. After that, you're going to need to start thinking space sacrifices in the front (if you're going to squeeze an amp up there) or start putting things in the trunk.

You can get very creative with the trunk and the trunk mounts are typically going to leave you the most space to keep your amp cool versus the front seat (unless you don't need a passenger seat or a convertible top).

Do a search for a WLaurent subwoofer enclosure. They fit in the golf club cutouts on either side of trunk. Sound passes into the cabin easily with no mods and they can remove in 30 seconds. I have two and love them.

For headunits, check out the Alpines at discountjungle.net. That's probably your best best for quality and lower cost.

6x9 in the door? What kind of enclosure do you have for those, aimed kickpanel pods?

I'd recommend using the the stock mounting locations, btw. Helps keep resale value higher (stock sells for more) and 6.5" speakers hold up fine or outperform 6x9's depending on the price point.
