Default Audio Setup For $1000

Hi All,

After lurking on this board for a while, I'm finally going to lease a 03 S2K in the next week or so.

Since it's a lease there are only a few minor mods I want to do to the car. One of which being an upgraded audio system. My planned budget is $1000 and I don't know how to do the install myself, unless I do it at a TechDay under the supervision of one of you experts out there.

I plan to spend the money on front and Lucid's rear speaker setups, an good amplifier, preferably one that fits under the seat like the Blaupunkt (quality/sound/ownership experience for the Blaupunkt would be appreciated). A sub setup is okay if it'd fit in the budget, as I don't really keep anything in my trunk. Thumping bass is not a necessity for me, just want to hear it at 80MPH with the top down.

I had Boston Acoustics Pro series in my 300ZX before and thought that the Titanium tweeters were a little too harsh, but in a convertible they might sound just right.

Your opinions are appreciated.

First, I'd suggest you find someone to help you. This will save you $ and another S2k owner will take much better care of the car while installing.

Get a GOOD set of components for fronts and power them with a decent amp and you should be able to hear the music at highway speeds. I'm not sure if you're planning to get an after market HU? There are quite a few options for subs, it's all been discussed here before. I'm sure you can find many ideas if you spend some time going thru old post in the electronics forum.

Havent' heard anything but good about lucid's rear. However i'm running the BA 65Pro's off of a nice two channel amp that's placed where the spare used to be. Those matched up nicely with the options i got from my alpine HU. The whole setup lets me hear whatever i want to play well above 80mph. The pro's are expensive but worth every penny. Put enough power to them and get a equalizer flexible HU and you won't be dying for the sub. Sounds great, just my 2cents

Thanks guys,

I'm not prepared for a new HU becuase of the extra work involved in installing and later uninstalling DJ Cube's audio controls.

I'd like some specific setup recommendations with components that will total under $1k. You help is appreciated.
