I just purchased a clarion 6.5 inch subwoofer to be mounted under the passenger seat and am replacing the stock speakers with JL Audio 6.5 inch coax speakers. The installation will be done next week. I hope that I've made the correct decision here as it would've been nice to hear it first. I'm looking for crisper, clearer highs and a more solid (but not overwelming) bass, does this sound like a good setup? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I'd be interested to know how you are going to get the sub under the seat. Pictures after the install if you can!

jallen,

Almost anything sounds like a good setup, but the proof is in the pudding. In my old Caddy I replaced the stock 6x9s with some aftermarkets and a new head. You would SWEAR I had a huge-ass subwoofer in the trunk...those same items in my old celica (before it was turned into a taco by a dump truck) were only reasonably good sounding. I just got lucky with the trunk being a perfect-size airbox on the Caddy.

I'm curious to see how that box fits under the seat, as well. I'm sure you'll be much happier than with the stock setup, but just how much happier will depend upon your tastes. Not much I can offer without hearing it myself (plus the fact that my tastes are usually quite different than most). Try Pinky...I'm sure he's heard a good mix of different speaker setups.

I don't like the JL 6.5's. My friend has them in a full show-quality system and they are definitely the weak link. MB Quarts are much nicer. Boston's are good too.

I just purchase the Clarion Subwoofer - PSW160 from carmedia1.com. Has anyone on this board install the Clarion subwoofer before? How much work is it? Thanks!

ps. I'm very happy with the Sony 1621's I installed in the doors. Then again, anything is better then the stock speakers from Honda!!!

I have to disagree with the Reverend on this one. The 6.5" JL Audio XRs are GREAT!!

Instead of coax though, you can go with a component set and mount those small tweeters in the A pillars. Still need an amp for good volume without having to crank up that distortion from the fine 15W factory head unit.

Is this the Honda sub that you bought??
