What about JL's audio equipments? Are they any good in the S? So the SS amp is best for the S? I want to build a system like Pikka and the rest. I don't want to go with the custom enclosure, and was wondering how does the sub hit in the tool well? Any rattle? Thanks guys!

I would not go as far as saying the Van Gogh is the best amp for this vehicle. But its a very good amp for the money. The sub hits very hard in the well. There are some rattles to the well where the convertible top sits in when down, and the license plate if its not backed with weather strip, but other than that the metal in this car does not vibrate. I am currently working on removing the well and getting some weather strip in there to address the rattles.

my original intent was that because he was looking for a system, he added in an optima yellow top as if they were necessary for the system or at least a preparation for one.

It's only when you decide to get an alternator rewind or a HO alt that you'll benefit from the optima yellow top.

It's either all or nothing i guess.

ZRo260 ,

No problem. I would say that my box weighs approximately 8 to 10 lbs. Dont worry about the weight, your not going to save much since you are already adding all this additional equipment (amps, subs, boxes, racks). I made my box totally out of 3/4 inch mdf, but I know you can get away with going with 1/2 mdf to save some weight.

I know you will be very very happy with the amp and sub. I was starting to get frustrated and even thought about just giving up on the sub since my Utopia's have tons of mid bass, but once I put the Alphasonik in, I knew it was perfect.

I ended up going with a Sound Stream Tarantula Grill for my sub, it should be in tommorow, so I will post pics of it once its in.

I hope you enjoy your sub and amp.

I had the 9835 initially and did not like it and ended up going with a Pioneer Premier 860. Everyone has their own tastes.

All I need now is to address the damm rattles in my soft top well.
Now Im curious, what occured with the 9835 - anything I should be concerned with ?
I'll keep my eye out for the pics.... Thanks again for your help

[QUOTE]if you have any basic woodworking abilities, making your own enclosure really shouldn't be outlandishly bad.

Got an email back from Alphasonik (for those interested), I almost forgot I emailed them. Anyway, here are the details on running the Alphasonik Amps in 3 channel mode:

PMA4150A (A/B BI-POLAR)
RMS power output with 12.5V
150W x 4 @ 4 ohms
240W x 4 @ 2 ohms
460W x 2 @ 4 ohms

When you configure this amplifier into 3 channel, the third channel (subwoofer) will be stable at no lower than 4 ohms with a power output of 460W RMS.

PMA640HCA (High Current)
RMS power output with 12.5V
160W x 4 @ 4 ohms
290W x 4 @ 2 ohms
480W x 4 @ 1 ohm
960W x 2 @ 1 ohm

When this amplifier is configured for 3 channel, the third channel (subwoofer) will be stable at 1 ohm with a power output of 960W (PMA640HCA).

Absolutely nothing wrong with the 9835, I just did not like the black and white display and I ended up going with a pioneer. I had used Pioneer in past exclusively so I wanted to try something new and thus I got the 9835. But I went back with Pioneer. THe 9835 was good, but I personally liked the Pioneer Premier better. To each his own.

Your not going to get away with having a lighter car with a system, so you might as well just make it out of 3/4 mdf and be done with it.

To seal the box just used wood glue and screws for the joints, and then silicone for the interior and let it dry fully.

The grille is at home when i get home I will throw it on and take some pics.
