Default Basic System Upgrade Info Needed

I am hoping for some advice. Let me start by saying that I am by no means an audiophile, but I wanted to increase the volume of my stock stereo so I can hear it better with the top down in the freeway. As cost (and desire to use the dash controls) was a major factor for me, my original plan was to get an amp and some better speakers for the front (or back - I had not decided).

After investigating prices in appeared that it is not too much to get a new receiver and some speakers. To that end, I have several questions:

1. Would I increase the volume with an Alpine 9830, Infinity 6000CS (and modifrys DCI)? Not the best system, but about the top of my budget...

2. Will I be able to hardwire my XM SkyFi with that receiver (what would I need to do so)?

3. How hard would it be to install the above (I am not too mechanically inclined and I am trying to determine whether to buy them locally or online)?

4. If I get the above, will I need anything else (Crutchfields said the 6000CS was not recommended for the S2000).

Thanks in advance for any info!

1) Yes. THe alpine HU pushes twice the wattage, so yes, more power=more volume

2)I believe so, but you can play XM through the alpine.

3)30 minutes if you have 5 brain cells, and 60 minutes if you have 3.

4)Band aids.

Great. Given the brain cell factor, I'll count on a full day!

You will need to cut the backs out of the speaker baskets. I installed the same speakers in my S a month ago.

Thanks for the info! How do you like the speakers? How do they fit? I am still up in the air between these speakers and looking at some others...

Thumbs up

I called Crutchfield and they said that the 6000cs needs .64 inches behind the grill while the S2000 only has .54 inches available. What is needed to make this work (I am not too handy and want to make sure I an not biting off more than I can chew)... Advice from anyone in the know or who has done this would be greatly appreciated!

you need to get a dremel and cut your speaker basket. it's messy and extremely fun.

here is a picture of a cut speaker basket:
