bass rattle problems
i was just wondering if anyone has any experience with high end subwoofers in their s. i recently put in a diamond m6d4 with a memphis 1000D amp pushing it, and it sounds great except for the ungodly rattle coming from basically everywhere. i havent dynamatted yet, but im going to do the trunk lid with extreme, and then carpet over it so it wont look too tacky, but i was wondering what to do about the convertable top motor, i think that is causing a lot of the rattle, i havent looked too far in there yet, but its coming from behind the driver seas somewhere. i was wondering if there was some way to shield it or something if that is what is is. anyone have any ideas?
thanks
thanks
Most of the rattle is coming from the "rear shelf" that is where the soft top lays when it is retracted. The plastic on plastic rattles badly. Removing the shelf and/or putting something soft inbetween the plastic will greatly reduce the noise. Other things to do is put some black electrical tape on all of the metal on metal latches. The glove box latch, the trunk latch, behind the license plate, etc. The car actually does a great job of not rattling compared to most cars I've experienced.
Is your rear shelf/tray vented?

Very good advice. Start by venting or removing the "rear shelf" that wesmaster is talking about. It makes all the difference.

My car rattles like a mother fvkr.... I dont even have that high end of a system, what is this venting you speak of??? cutting a slit or hole in the shelf??? Does anyone have any pics of this? I really dont wann remove the shelf because my top is up most of the time lately and it will look dumb. Thanks for the help!
spapdx : If you don't have a "high end" sub, you can try a simple trick first: Try to put something under the shelf to press it upwards so it does not vibrate - e.g. I once put a yellow pages book between the spare tire and the shelf and it made a big improvement. Further rattles coming from the shelf can be taken care of by inserting small pieces of rubber between the shelf (along the edges) and the surrounding plastic.
