Default bel 946???

hello all!!!

i'm doing some research...reguarding radar detectors. it seems everyone is recommending either the valentine or the passport 8500. but one thing no one mentions is how they get the power cord to string across...or they hardwire the detector.

hardwiring is something i'm not to excited about...and stringing a power cord from the windshild to the back of the car doesn't float my boat either...so i looked around and dug up the BEL 946. its battery operated...seems like the perfect solution to my dilemas. but does it work?

that's what i wanna ask all of you. have any of you had any experience with the bel 946? has anyone had experience with a cordless radar detector at all? any recommendations? i'd like to hear from anyone and everyone who has experience with cordless radar detectors or is simply a radar detector genius!

also, if this doesn't work, i was wondering how many of you are actually powering your passport 8500's. but not hardwiring it to the vehicle.

thanks for taking the time to read this!!!

The Solo is a better rated wireless / battery operated detector. However, the wired, vehicle powered detectors always rate higher.

It took me 15 minutes to hard wire my detector and you can not see the cable if the detector is not plugged in. I wired the remote display down by the steering column out of sight. Ran the cable up the A-pillar and then attached a female-female rj11 adaptor and then a short rj11 cable out the windshield side of the pillar area. I attached a small piece of velcro to the windshield up high behind the pillar, then attached the other side of the velcro to the cable. When the detector is not plugged in I just velcro the cable to the windshield. When I need it it comes off easily.

I used the adaptor in case the cable ever frayed. The cable was $1.50 at Radio Shack versus having to run a long cable up to the area again.

I just found the Bel 946 on Amazon for $149 and free shipping. I realize it will not perform as well as a V1 or Escort 8500, yet I really do not want to shell out $400 for a only slightly better detector. I think it will do the job just fine.

Two members of my family have the Bel 946 and both give it high marks.
