Default best CURRENT radar detector

First off, I did a search and didn't find anything relating to this topic within the past few years, so I thought I'd start a new one.

I'm going to get a new radar detector, and had planned on the Valentine One, but after doing a quick internet search, saw that there are a number of newer detectors from Bel, Passport, Escort that seem to be as good or better for an even cheaper price.
So, what do you all recommend?

The V1 is an excellent detector, but it never shuts up. I like my 8500 a lot, but would love to upgrade to the gps enabled 9500.

What about the Bel Pro RX65?

Also, are all of these units able to be hardwired, or do you have to use the cig. lighter (which is in a horrible location in the S2K if so!)?
