Also, I've read cases where the radar might quit working after a period of time b/c of overheating, etc... Anyone on here have that problem?
Ya I'm wondering about this as well--I saw a product review comparing the Bel and Valentine, and they did heat testing where the Bel had a feature to shut down so it wouldn't mess up the chip inside, however, the Valentine basically broke

It really bothers me that the plain 8500 doesn't catch pop radars, hence the desire to upgrade.

I don't recommend going with the old 8500, it's just too far behind. My buddy has an 8500 X50 and I like it looks like a good upgrade. To answer your other question, I haven't had any overheating issues.

True "POP" radar isn't legal in court. Instant-on is, but you can't do anything against that anyway.

Thanks, so using your buddies unit you noticed that it can detect radar signals that your unit cannot?

You could also consider the Bel STi which got good reviews. These guys sell tons of radar/laser equipment, I am running their M45 laser jammers but I have not been lasered since installing them yet!

If you want to order from that site let me know, I can refer you and he will get you the best price.

This is the exact reason I am pondering the 8500 vs 8500x50.

Yeah, he let me borrow it for a few weeks and I noticed early detection around some cops that camp along my route to the office.

Why do you all prefer the 8500 X50 over the Bel RX65? I was thinking they are basically equal per this review:

However, the RX65 has Voice alerts, which I thought made it superior. Anything I'm missing, or is it just personal preference?

This may or may not be an ignorant question, but the RX65 is on this ebay listing for $100 under retail, and it would SEEM to be legit, but I still hesitate since it's ebay and I don't want to get a defunked product. Does this look to good to be true?
