He can be the biggest jerk in the wqorld but the V1 always has the best ratings. Its the only one I'd trust. ... or buy...

I have both right now and will be getting rid of one of them as soon as I reach a conclusion with the V1 I just picked up. I had my 9500i for 6 months and I was able to use it daily in the city since I locked the falses out. It also saved me quite a few times on the highway. But there were also times I wished that I had an idea of which direction the radar was coming from....so then I got the urge to pick up a V1 and see what all the fuss is about. I've enjoyed seeing the differences on both. The arrows really do make a great difference to me but I also loved the GPS lockout feature on the 9500i. I think it just comes down to personal choice. You can have the V1, which is supposedly the most sensitive and has the benefit of the arrows. Or you can have another really sensitive detector (9500i) and be able to enjoy it daily in the city without all the annoying falses you would typically get with the V1.

Here was the latest test guys of lidar did with three V1s, a 9500i and a few others....as you can see the 9500i was certainly not lacking in terms of sensitivity....and in the real world I doubt a 2ms difference would matter.
Guys of lidar august 2007 test

Verdict:
V1 for highway cruising
9500i for city and commute.

However, I still haven't decided on which one I'm going to keep yet but right now I'm leaning towards the V1 since I'm going to be driving highways most of the time.

Valentine makes great radar detectors but i have a Rocky Mountain Radar detector and they have been test proven to have faster response than even the valentine one. However i think the valentine one can pick up radar farther away then Rocky Mountain but as far as the instant on radar/laser. Noone beats Rocky Mountain. they all scramble and have cloaking, etc.

In between my home and office the local police set up one of those little mobile speed moniter trailers thingys. I decided one morning to find out just how far in advance my V1 would detect it. 1.3 miles out is where it started beeping and that was with a very slight bend and hill in the road. (no direct line of sight to the speed monitor when it initially detected it)

I've wondered over the past few years when Valentine will update their casing with some more modern design (with arrows of course).
I actually hope that they don't. It keeps most of the thieves away, because they think it's an old POS. Also, I can rest assured that I can always get a hardware upgrade many years in the future without having to buy a new casing. They have not changed the casing from day 1, and it's because of this reason. It fuctions well and is very durable. Why change it?

And I've used Passports before. Good detectors. Just no arrows and no concealed display. Stealth install alone is worth choosing the V1.

Concealed display? The Passports have a black-out mode where only the "Smart Cord" shows alerts.

Yeah, but what does it show? Just a blinking red dot? V1 shows the FULL display on the concealed display unit.

My V1 has saved me so much more than its cost there is no decision for me to even consider. V1 FTW.
