I am sure there are other good detectors. I've never felt a need for anything better than the V1, and it has, as I've said, saved my bacon on many occasions. I've never gotten pulled when using it.

Tell me again why I would want to change?

^^ true that, but I guess technically its the same thing now since Beltronics and Escort are the "same" company

V1 may not be for you. Are you located in Ontario or another providence where radar detectors are illegal? If so the Beltronics STI is the radar detector for you. It is 100% undetectable to all of the Spectre units used in Canada. Its still on your windshield so you'll want to take it down if an officer starts tailing you, but its undetectable electronically.

I have a Beltronics rx-65 and its very similar to the STI and its a great detector. IMHO the V1 alerts to everything. Automatic doors, security systems, etc... My rx-65 only gives my about 1 false every 2 weeks. Never gotten a ticket for the 2 1/2 years driving with it.

For highway driving, V1 is king. If you don't mind the falses and don't live where its illegal, then V1 is for you.

If you need an undetectable detector and want a quiet detector, STI is for you.

Heres website with some good comparisons on radar detectors.

Like any "best" question it's a subjective matter and you really need to clarify what you mean as well as provide your personal preferences if you want a meaningful recommendation rather than fanboy responses.

Read up on the options recommended in this thread so far and try out whatever sounds like it will suit you best. Every unit mentioned so far would be a very good option. In a nutshell, the V1 is a bare bones performance-driven detector. A lot of the others are very feature-oriented. Figure out what you want/need. Try several out. The manufacturers offer a return period.

It's not one-size-fits all despite what the radar detector fanboys will try to tell you. Personally, I prefer the V1*. YMMV.

* - And if anyone tells you that it hasn't changed in 5 years then that person is clearly clueless. The housing hasn't really changed but hopefully you're shopping for more than the cosmetics of your radar detector.

I guess Mr. Honda, Mr. Ford, Mr. Bose, etc. have large egos as well. Not a good analogy IMO.

V1 is the best if you can afford it. It you want to save a few bucks, the 9500 or the Bel are great as well. The arrows separate it from the rest. Those who say it's a gimmick haven't owned one.
