Best speakers for 9857?
I had a 9857 installed in my 06 and really like the Ipod and mp3 feature. I'm not totally happy with the sound and was thinking the speakers can't keep up with the new power.I'm looking at Boston Acoustics sx60 from crutchfield,with dynamat etc. around 300.00.Think I'll put these in myself since the closest quality install place is 2 hrs away.Any suggestions as to my speaker selection? Looking for something that will work well with just the power from the headunit. Thanks in advance!
Have you listened to the boston's?
Go and audition any speakers you are considering. Once you do that, pick the one you like that has good sensitivity and doesn't have big power requirements.
I put Alpine Type-S's in my 06 and they are ok with the 9857's power, but I'll probably replace them later when I put an amp in the car (was trying to avoid it cause I'm lazy)

Might want to take a peek at the Infinity Kappa 60.7CS
They have 95db sensitivity, which means they dont need a lot of power to sound good.

Here they are for $185

Also, another member was just in the same boat as you, and he was able to sample these speakers. He chose the Infinity's over the bostons.....

If you are planning on getting an amp, speak now.....The site I listed above is having a sale on Kappa Perfects (what I have in my car) for $249. They are remarkable speakers, can take about 150wrms, and sound crystal clear. If not, these speakers will definetely make a difference over stock. A hamster singing in the doors will make a bigger difference over stock.

correct. stock head wouldnt drive most components adequately... at 2ohm, no less. 2 channel amps are not that pricey...woofersetc have a wide selection and good prices... also try etronics.com

I just had my audio accoutrements installed about a week ago.
HU = Alpine CDA-9856
AMP = Alpine MRV-F345
COMP SPK = Infinity Kappa 60.7cs (I definitely agree with NFRs2000NYC, these speakers are excellent, very clean, requires minimal "cranking")
SUB = None (and I'm glad as my system is also mind-blowing for my listening taste)
I chose these set-up after reading some of the suggestions in our forum, but made my final decision after listening to various set-up from various audio stores. I also came to conclusion that one's favorite speakers, can be someone else's least favorite. FYI, I've listened to various component speakers i.e., Polk Boston Acoustics, Alpine, Kicker, MTX, Pioneer and Infinity.
I have a feeling that I'll end up purchasing the CDA-9857 in a week and end up selling the CDA-9856 as I like the look of the screen (biolite). Also, a buddy here in our forum is willing to install it for me as soon as I get the freakin' DCI. FYI, he also swears by his CDA-9857.
I guess my recommendation is for you to try the various speakers you have in mind and go with what sounds great to you.

I just had the 9857 installed with a Kicker 200.2 amp and Kicker KS6.2 components
i love the 9857 expecially since i had my ipod and xm hooked up to it...
the amp is great
the Kicker speakers though seem to be a little too in your face. they are great compared to the factory speakers, but....
i am having them replaced with Focal 165KP's tomorrow. to me to Focal's just have a much more accurate, clean sound, so we'll see how they work in my system tomorrow.
