Cutting off ones finger is a BIG myth, like justin said you need living tissue and body heat.

Assuming it actually has heat sensors built-in, it just has to be warm. Worst case, make a copy of the fingerprint and glue it over your own finger.

The finger-print reader is not the real security, the "unknown" immobilizer circuitry is. The finger-print reader is just a convenient way to turn off the immobilizer. Want to confuse them? Put a finger-print pad on the console with wires going into the tunnel but not hooked up to anything, then put a device on the cruise control buttons so when you tap out a special code the engine is allowed to start. Or wire it so the car won't start unless the windshield wipers are on. The more "odd-ball" you get the harder it will be to figure out.

In the past there were only a few ways to "disable" the engine. Starter kills or ignition disablers were common but in the old days even fuel cuts didn't work as the cars were carburetted and even with an in-line valve there was enough fuel in the bowls to drive the car at least a few blocks, which at night was as enough to get it to where it could be worked on or towed without being noticed.

Today there are lots of interesting ways to disable the engine: fuel pump, ignition,
fuel injectors, throttle position sensor, MAP sensor, TDC sensor, temp sensor, etc.

Yes like I said, it is just a deterent. If they really want the car they can just flat bed the thing, Tow trucks don't ever need keys.

This would be alot harder to disable then most people think...
Especially say if u hide the fuel cut near the actual tank.. Lets see someone climb in the back to bypass the wires. ha yea right... Then u can also hide the starter kill in the engine bay somewhere where u would have to be under the car to bypass that..

Really the regular theif would give up after 1 min..

The real theif wont even break in ur car.. he will just throw it on a flat bed and leave... So much for protection there.. lol
