Default Building my system

I have up to around $700 to spend on my audio system (although I'm not sure if I have to spend even that much to achieve what I want). I currently have an Alpine iDA-X305 headunit that I use primarily for playing music from my iPhone. My music consists of everything, mostly rock and rap.

I'm looking to get:

- Speakers to replace the stock speakers (I believe I have 6 speakers stock?). Once the install is done, the interior needs to still look stock / the same as it was before and I'd prefer that nothing needs to be cut to install the speakers.

- Amp to power the speakers

- I'm not really interested in any sort of subwoofer because of weight gain, although am I wrong in thinking that subs still weigh a lot these days?

Recommendations on what would work for what I want? I'm not a total audiophile, but I'd like significant gains over the stock system in sound quality. I've never installed any aftermarket stereo stuff in a car before, so as much detail as possible would be much appreciated

Everything you need right there. I was going to install it in my car this summer but we just bought a house so the S may be gone. I can also include all brand new wiring stuff (Rockford Fosgate) to run all the wire you need and install it.

I'll let some of the Pros comment on these components for you, but I was in your boat this time last year and purchased all of this in the fall after reading and asking question after question.

you can check mine out as well... i had same thoughts as you....

I did a small sealed 10" sub and fiberglass box with new speakers and one 4 channel amp.

imporved sound a ton and ... didn't add too much weight. If you take out the spare tire - replace with amp, then take out tire kit and replace with sub.... you are sitting good for weight and shit.... and you can turn some good sound quality.

if you aren't necessarily into the audiophile sound, i would go find a place to demo some of the lower end component sets that people post about on here. your headunit probably puts out 20-30W per channel or somewhere thereabouts...i'd give some recommendations but i'm still in the market doing my research as well.

those diamond audio components posted by crackerballer are a nice pair, but require an amp and new wiring to be run into your doors.

If you're looking for a slight improvement in sound, but nothing too extreme, then I'd recommend some decent component speaker. I have the Infinity 6030 cs and like them, but to some, they are a bit "bright". I am powering them off of a 2 channel Kenwood amp. I thought that with a component speaker setup with plenty of amp juice, I wouldn't need a sub, I was wrong. I'll be looking to add a 10" sub next year. Reason why I say this is that while my componets can handle most low frequencies for rap and hip-hop while i'm cruising at low speeds or parked, a lot of the lows gets droned out while I'm on the freeway.
