Default Can this be replicated

I dont know if this has ever been brought up, but tonight while driving home, I was behind a 07 Lexus GS 300, I noticed how bright the license lamps are that illuminate the license plate. Its almost as if they are HID's. Can we do this on our cars, I mean is it just a different light back there, or maybe a strong LED. Anyone know, Macgyver maybe?

just out of curiousity why would you make your license plate MORE VISIBLE to both public and police?

I know exactly what your talking about. Thats very strange because i noticed this quite a while ago and i was thinking the exact same thing. this was back when i had my sentra. I'll call lexus tommarrow and see how much the bulbs are, and report back to you all. glad someone else noticed it because i thought it looked very classy too.

I will do even better, I am an adjuster for an insurance company, I will just pull up the part in my estimating system and determine if its just a bulb, or an entire new system such as led's. Keep us posted as well if you speak to the dealer.

You said it perfectly, its very classy.

Well I checked my system, the lights are $62.86 for the pair, so obviously they are not standard bulbs, also there is no more info either, so I dont know if you need a separate system to power the bulds (like a hid ballast, or if they are just stand alone bulbs or led's).

Avernus, let us know what you find out from your phone call.

Well I just called lexus and they said the bulbs are 7 bucks a peice but the whole assembly is $291(this includes the brackets the diffusers..everything.) I think that you could just buy the bulbs and then fabricate something from plexy. anyway thats my 2 cents.

Interesting, In my estimatics program, for the GS 430 they are $62.86 for the pair.

I will check out club lexus as well.

I wonder if they misquoted you the price for the bulbs for the tail lamps and reverse lamps. Or maybe the $62.86 includes the mounting sockets. The $291 would probably involve the entire assembly where the lights reside, I did see that in my program, but did not pull it up for pricing.

They are LED's.
