As far as alternators go, I haven't had any rewound. It's on my list of to-dos, but not high enough for me to have done much research. Let me see what I can find for you
I too would like to learn more about this.

Thanks

I think you'll be fine with the yellowtop. If not, you can always upgrade to the Powermaster at a later date
yea that's what i'm thinking, i'll probably head to o'reillys this weekend to check out the availability of a yellow top. i figure if i get it through them, i can have them deal with the hassle of having to return it if it turns out to be one of the bad ones

so I heard that our alternators can't be rewound do to the space limitations of our housing. I also found out that one of my local members has a 180 amp alternator and it cost him ~$700.

How many amperes is our alternator? A replacement site I found listed them as 105 amperes, but obviously that's not from Honda...

I'm looking at my S2000 Honda Service Manual (2000-2003 edition first published in September 2002).

Page 2-2 confirms the amperage rating of the stock alternator for model years 2000-2003 is 105 amps at 13.5 volts and "normal engine temperature".

Do you have any other information about the 180 amp alternator besides how expensive it is? Like who makes it, does it really work as a drop-in replacement for the stock alternator, any problems with it, etc...?

Thanks

it does work as a drop-in replacement, i believe he's been running it for .5-1 year with no problems, i'll try to get more details, but that price is a "special" price, so i don't know how many details i can get prior to ordering one...

what size wire are you running from the battery to the amps. bigger is better. I have a 4 gauge running 1 amp.

if you have a high current draw, you need a bigger pipe(wire) top get more power to the amps
