I'll take a look at mine at lunch time today and try to see what you're talking about.

With most fasteners, if it's not a bolt or a screw, you pry it out. I'll see if I can figure out what the "plastic screw cover thingy" at the back is.

If you are referring to the mounting point of the "cage", it is a stud welded to the cage. There is a nut that needs to be removed from underneath the car.

Maybe this will help: (Click on "view installation instructions")

Yep, that's it. You can access two of the bolt from inside the boot but the third one is a "headless" bolt and you have to undo the nut from underneath the car. This looks like it almost has to be a two person job.

What a PITA. This looks like it's totally designed to frustrate us DIY-ers.

The bolt is permanently attached to the cage. You may want to put one of the bolts you took out back in hand tight. This will keep the cage from turning while you undo the nut from underneath. After removing the nut, take out the bolt that you had put back in, and the cd changer and cage will lift right out.

If you plan to mount it in a different location, you'll want to patch the hole in the trunk with something to keep the water out. You'll also have to use different hardware for the other two mounts as they currently thread into captured nuts that can't be relocated.
