Default Cell Phone Choices

I have been carrying a Motorola StarTac phone for about 1 1/2 years. It is a pretty good phone except for the poorly designed antenna. I am connected through Verizon Wireless, and I have the family plan. Verizon is about the best provider in Northern New Jersey.

This evening I gave my phone to my oldest son and decided to buy myself a new phone. My choices are the following:

LG VX4400
LG VX10
Samsung A310
Motorola T720

Sound quality is very important to me as is convenience of the phone. The ability to send and receive calls is also important. I don't want a phone that has trouble when the signal strength is less then optimum. I do want to get one of these as this is the type of phone I prefer.

If anyone has any experience with any of them please give me your feedback and your expeience. Your comments will help me make up my mind. I am leaning towards the Motorola.

Thanks.

Rob, I don't know anything about the other phones but I have
the Motorola T720.... it works well and I happened to like Motorola
I have owned many other phones made by them... I also like the
the software on the phone or the interface, very easy and seems logical.
The phone does work well signal strength is great.... But as you said
that's because your on Verizon!!! IMO.... Verizon is the best, & has the
most coverage anywhere not just here by us ....... I have the America's
choice plan and have used it all over from coast to coast . Anyway now
for the cons.....

1, the volume on the phone isn't loud enough..... You have had a StarTac
so you know what I mean.... Its almost impossible to have a conversation
if there is back ground noise.... I used to be able to have a conversation any
where with the StarTac.

2, the battery life isn't that great ..... You get maybe an 1-1/2 hours or so
of talk time..... I guess because of the features of the phone like the color
screen drains quickly.... So what I did was buy an extra battery and the desk
top charger ... Then you can always have a backup battery..... And of course
the car charger.

Other then that the phone is pretty good I use it as my primary phone so it
gets used for work .... I have beat it up.... You know dropped it or falls out of
my tool belt and such....but it still works

Hope this helps feel free to ask me more if you like.

Mike.

Mike

Thanks, thats the info I was looking for. I love my StarTac (E.W.A. love her's too) but I gave it to my oldest son. Based on my experience with the StarTac and Motorola in general, and your info I think I'm going to get the T720. I'll pm my new number to you later if I decide.

i sell cell phones and from my experience i would say the t720 is the best phone. Motorola is also one of the best cell phone companies out there, try to get a warranty though because cell phone batteries need to be replaced at least once a year.

Are just those four in your consideration? I just purchased the Motorola i95 (Nextel). It's quite large, but the features and construction are excellent, not to mention the benefits of two way.

Yes, those are pretty much the only phones that I'm considering. I want a small, clamshell
type phone.

By the way, I noticed that you're in Las Vegas. We're taking a 5 day vacation in Las Vegas this week. Sunday morning we take off from Newark Airport. It should be great.

I have the Motorola i90c (nextel) and love it. It is a bit fatter than other clamshells, but I don't have a problem hearing thru the phone or using the speaker.
