As most of you electronic gurus know, the sound system in the stock S2000 is a bit lacking. I am not an audiophile but when I was planning my setup, I wanted a good quality clean sound and install. My goal was to use high quality components and have a visually appealing setup without compromising too much trunk space. My setup probably won't win any prizes or any db competitions but I am very happy with it.
Head Unit: Pioneer Premier DEH-P940MP
Not a lot of people have considered this one because of the price! It is not cheap! I was not sold on this one but once I saw it when install, I was really satisfied! Colors at night are very cool, esp. Pioneer's OEL!
Components: FOCAL polykevlar 165K2's
You experts would like the K2's. I know, just about every other S2000 owners have them but I really wanted Focal but couldn't justify the Utopia line. Sorry no picture taken.
Amplifier: Audison SRX3
What? I know, I never heard of this company either. From what I was told, Audison is very popular in Europe (Made in Italy). The company has a close association with Focal so I assume they are good. I suspect Focal would not allign themselves with just anyone. Any ways, this amp is very small and slim, appears packaged very tightly. Not everyone on the block will have this amplifier.
Subwoofer: Focal polyglass V33
Since my components were Focal, I went with a Focal Sub. This is a 13 inch sub that provided good bass. I know i could have gone for two tens or twelves, but I did not want to overdo it. I still want some trunk!
Sub enclosure: Custom Fiberglass
Now this costed me a bit but I think it was worth it. The color was color-matched to the exterior, giving a very clean look. I know I could get a sub box made out of wood but I like the look of the fiberglass.
Here are a few pictures as promised. I know, the car is a bit dusty / dirty but I plan to do some detailing after everything is done:
be sure to add your system pics and info to the systems thread PAS2KNut started.
good choices on your system...
how does the Focal sub sound? how efficient is it?
I have recently read a good bit on the Audison, but haven't personally heard them... however, they look to be VERY nice gear... if i weren't already so in love w/ my Adcom or if i needed to replace it -- they'd be at the top of my list! quite pricey, especially for the Vrx tier, but phenomenal designs.
How difficult was the fiberglass enclosure to make? I'd like to try one out someday.
Also, does enough of the bass make it to the cabin?
I didn't make the enclosure myself. I wouldn't know where to begin
The installer who did it for me is one of the best in the city. When I saw the process (and what a PITA it is), I was glad I did not fabricate it since I don't have the time or patience.
There is enough of the bass that makes it into the cabin, enough for my tastes any ways. There is a loud feature on the HU that gives plenty of 'thump'. As with all new setups, it needs to be heard to be appreciated
