Center channel assistance
Greetings,
I currently have a Rockford-Fosgate RAVDVD1 source unit and thoroughly enjoy it. The source unit is running to a JL Audio 500/5 amp which powers my front, rear and trunk sub.
The problem that I have is that the source unit has a center channel output, but the 500/5 does not have an input or output for a center channel.
I rarely need the center channel unless I'm playing DVDs. As luck would have it, on a long trip my wife wanted to watch a movie and during playback there were no voices, that we thought. I became so frustrated during the drive that I had to pull over to try and figure it out. When I cranked the volume, I could hear the voices muffled through the trunk sub. Sure enough, I was a moron and had connected the center channel output from the source unit to the left input of the sub and the sub output of the source unit to the right input sub input on the amp. This of course was my problem with seemingly no voices on the playback. I eventually fixed this by finding the center channel speaker yes/no option in the source unit setup menu and vwalla, voices could be heard from the fronts and rears and the sub functioned as it was supposed to.
My idea now is to purchase the S-Pods since I already have the Lucid rear panels and use them for them for the center channel.
So, down to my question, what amp type should I use to power the center channel S-Pod speakers? I prefer to stick with JL just because I like to keep portions of my audio system the same (don't ask why, it's an anal retentative deal). I already know that I will have to split the center channel output from the source unit with a Y-adapter for input on left and right to an amp, but should I power the centers with a 300/2 or power the speakers with a mono 250/1 amp?
My other thought would be to power the centers with the rear input/output of the 500/5 as it's only pushing 25W to them and they can handle 200W and then run the rear output of the source unit to a 300/2 to power the rears to get better sound levels during non DVD operations.
Please let me know if anyone can think of a better way to do this if you have one.
Thanks!
