Default changing new sterio head unit

the factory head unit sucks, i want to change a new one, however will i loose the volume control (beside the steering) ...etc. after i change the head unit?

i am not into sound system much, i just want better sound, should change the speakers too? or just the head unit is enough?

It all depends on what model you have MY00/01 seem to have poor speakers and head units and alot of people in the UK have replaced both or upgraded the speakers and are using amps.

My02 which i have got seems to have better speakers and all i have done is replaced the head unit and can hear the stereo upto 70 with the roof down. Will be installing some rears at some point.
As for the controls if you use an Alpine then there is a device that you can attatch to keep the controls althou the radio function will not use the presets correctly which is a bit annoying. This device can be bought from lucids site, but you may need a euro Alpine h/unit.

Hope this helps.

thanks alot, well i think i might just keep the head unit b/c i like those controls beside the steering wheel alot, they r useful & convinient.

is there anyway i can get better sound without changing the head unit? sorry, i dun know much about sound system. i was looking at the S2ki store of this site, and they r selling 8" sub which i think it's pretty nice since it doesn't take up alot of trunk space.

if i change the speakers, add an amp & sub, but keep the foactory head unit, will that help? or it's just a waste of $ to do this?

Actually, if you look in the Marketplace, - For sale, DJ Cube has a fix to make the controls by the steering wheel work for your aftermarket head unit...check it out..I believe it is a $200 option though.... But......I heard it is really cool and also adds some features...

There are plenty of dash control interface options for the Sony, Pioneer and Alpine units.

If you want some bass you could add an amp and 8" sub enclosure, replace your door speakers and keep the stock HU. I think you would be much more happy if you installed a aftermarket HU also.

See my webpage....you have several options, if you do a search, for the dash controls. SWI-X unit from Pacific Audio (PAC), Alpine hardwire, some old DCU units for Sonys from S2k_man may still be had, and I think modifry is working on an all-in-one unit.

I personally don't like the SWI-X from PAC. There is a delay which I find annoying; some people who have it don't mind though.

Once I find the time to rip my dash apart, I will be installing DJ Cube's audio control - no delay and more functions.

Make sure you get new speakers; the factory ones suck no matter what year you have.
