Why not go with two WLaurent boxes? I'm running two 8" e8as in WL boxes and they are tight, deep, musical, and loud. You can't get much better than that. My subs setup is one of the best setups I've ever heard for SQ -- and it's in an S!

As an aside, I think William can now put 10" subs and the 8" JL 8W7 in his enclosures (but I'd still look for e8a's in the group buy). I don't know why exactly someone mentioned to make your own box. You can't beat the price and WLaurent's quality is better than any one-off from an audio shop.

I would have to say go with a JL 10W7.
Do you ever have groceries or things over your sub? Just curious if you don't carry stuff or if you have a grille on the sub now. (I'm looking for grilles...)

I've been thinking of that, as two 8's in the WLAURENT enclosures would probably sound good. But isn't it hard to find the e8a subs now? Also, I would need to make sure that they would work with my MMATS amp. It's 700x1 running at 1ohm. I don't know how to do the wiring or figure out what subs work with what amp, so I'd need to know for sure before buying.

I don't want a 12" sub! I already have PLENTY of bass with my 10" sub. I just want something a little more accurate and tight-sounding. And take up less space.

I'll second the idea of the baby Brahma in a small sealed enclosure (deja vu there eh?) I really think you need to be looking at something like a good 10" sub, in a small space. That MMATS amp is going to keep things nice and tight.

If it were me looking for a sub, my shortlist would be:

Adire Brahma
Eclipse Aluminum
JL W7

Any of those in a small sealed enclosure of proper size, with proper amplification is going to be pretty nice, and controlled.

Good luck!

Well I'll add my two pennies and say that I don't have a clue as to what the "best" setup for you is, however, you can't use "space" as a eliminating factor.

I have two JL 10W3v2's, two JL amps(300/2, 500/1), Alpine Nav, PS2, 5 farad cap, and XM stuffed in my trunk... and can put two walking golf bags in the trunk at the same time. On top of all that, it's all removable for track days. Where there is a will, there is a way.

And "flitcroft," I believe you waaay overgeneralized when comparing WLaurent's product(s) to custom shops.

Okay, that's fair, but I disagree. My point is just that a custom job involves trial and error. Why would you assume that some "expert" somewhere can perfect on a near perfect setup? The build quality on WLaurent enclosures is second-to-none and the boxes are tuned perfectly. For larger or flashier setups you'll want to look elsewhere, but for simple stock-looking setups I honestly don't think someone (anyone) is going to make a better product for a single customer on a single try. There's a good reason that companies invest in R&D. Sometimes it takes a few (dozen) tries to get it right.

Nate - look at the group buy thread in this forum. eD is considering making a special run of e8a's, or similar low volume subs, just for our club. The e8a is discontinued and will be a bit harder to get a hold of, but it's well worth it if you can find it. I also hear great things about the Alphasonik high end small subs. It sounds like what you're really looking for is a more efficient, high quality sub. JL subs are not this at all (although they can sound spectacular). The Adire Brahma and Eclipse look closer.

Where did you want to mount your box, ideally?

On the sides of the trunk. Toolwell is second choice (what I have now), but I'd like something small on the side of the trunk like WLAURENT's enclosures.

Whoa... not knocking their product in the least. I've never heard one bad thing. I was just stating that the comparison between the two was way oversimplified. If I were to have installed one of those enclosures, there would be no way I could get one set, let alone two, in my trunk. Usable space in the trunk was a very important factor in my layout. The Mrs. and I often take the S to multi-day events and packing lots of clothes, toiletries, etc is a must.
