Default Component Crossover Questions

I'm installing some Polk db6500's soon and I have a JL Audio 300x4 amp which will put out 75 watts RMS to the components.

The amp is said to have a good crossover, so I'm wondering what to do.

1. Do I even need the polk crossovers?

2. If so, what should I set the polk crossovers to?

3. What should I set the amp crossover to?

4. Is this something that I need to just play around with, or is there some definite settings to use?

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

I am running the same setup. I used the polk crossover to run to the amp and it sounds good. As far as setting the amp up, go to there website or take it to a local dealer. You might have to pay them labor but its worth it.

Cool, although I will be doing the install myself.

So I take it you like your setup? No complaints? Do you have a sub as well?

Yes I do have subs. Its kicker 10. I think a vr The rms is 150 so it is perfect for my setup. You will love this setup. If you get a sub with a 150 rms. Don't get any higher because your amp won't have enough power. This is what I have but mine come with the box.

Well I had a JL 10 but it blew. No idea why, it was way underpowered, bu it still sounded really good. The Polk Momo takes 300 RMS but from what I've heard many subs still sound good with less power.

I can always send the Momo back if I dont like it. I dunno if I can find a better sub for this setup for $100 or not.

If it was way underpower then that is why you blew it. The amp can't produce that much power to the sub so it will start distorting. I try that on my friends sub he had a w6 10 we trade sub and box so I hook it up to my amp and when I try it up sounds good but started to distort. I was running 75 to the front and 150 to the back. The sub needs 300 to 400 RMS. The amp didn't have enough power. What you should do is buy another amp for the fronts and keep the 300/4 run a 2ch to the sub so you will have enough power for a 300RMS sub. Or find a lower sub setup. You should keep the momo so you can balance your system up.
