Default Component speaker crossover question

I have a set of Alpine Type R components that i'll be installing tommorow. The inside of the crossover has 3 settings: 0dB, -3dB, and -6dB. There are a set of prongs for each setting and a jumper to set which setting i want. What do these settings mean? And which do i want to use? And will i hear a difference? If it makes a difference i'm using a Rockford Fosgate 500watt amp, i might put a pair of 6 1/2's in the rear panels and no plans for a sub. Hopefully some of the electronics junkies can help me out

These setting control the signal level to the tweeter relative to the woofer. At the 0db setting, the tweeter and woofer are getting the same signal amplitude (i.e. volume). The -3db and -6db settings are used if the sound has too much highs - kind of like turning down the treble control. Set the head unit treble (or EQ) to 0 and play with the crossover setting. Just find the setting that sounds best to you. You will definitely notice a difference between the three settings.

I'd probably start at -3db and adjust up or down from there. 0 db is the loudest of the three settings.

Why would you start at -3dB? You're just wasting power by dumping it into the the filters. Start at 0dB and adjust as needed.
