Default Control iPhone using the headphone jack?

I was wondering if there is any way I can play songs using my iPhone through the S2000 headunit, but control them using the headphone jack rather than the iPhone dock connector?

My current set up uses the dock connector, but I'm looking at getting the TOMTOM sat nav kit which uses the dock connector to charge the phone.
I think it might be possible because you can get headphones that allow you to change track and pause through the headphone jack...

Any advice is helpful!

I wouldn't count on finding an off the shelf solution. It's certainly possble but there's no demand for this and it would be a one-off thing. Further, you'd probably have to choose between having audio controls and having iPhone controls as I'm not aware of any iPhone interface that connects to the headphone jack for control.

Getting a head unit with AVRCP is a more realistic solution IMO. However, I have no idea if the audio controls would control the iPhone via AVRCP and you'd need a DCI.

I hadn't thought of that option. It might be much easier.

So I now need to see if you can control an iPhone, via bluetooth on the headunit using the S2000 controls. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
