Default Custom Laser Jammer & Radar Detector Install

Well I just bought my car a couple weeks ago. This is my first mod that I'm doing to it. I still have to get it registered and also on the dyno to get re-tuned; It's having some issues under high boost.

This is the laser jammer I bought.

It is the highest rated jammer currently on the market and should not have any trouble jamming anything police currently use.

For my radar detector I will be using my Passport 8500 x50.

The original plan was to hard-wire the detector in and install the "smart cord" which has a mute button on it. But then my brother ( who is the brains of this operation ) convinced me to let him do a custom job with everything. So instead of finding a surface to attach the laser jamming kill switch and mute button, we are going to mount the button/switch below the cruise control.

We sent the circuit board of the "smart cord" out to be modified. We needed the switch/LEDs on it taken off and wires attached extending a couple feet off the circuit board for the new switch and LEDS.

We decided to mount the LEDs here

The red one will tied to the "smart cord" of the radar detector and only go off if radar is detected.

The green LED will always be on until I toggle the switch for the laser jammer. This way, if I'm being hit by laser, I can slow down to the speed limit and then turn off the jammer so the police can still get a reading on me.

Next steps once I get the circuit board back from the PC repair guy will be to hard-wire the detector in using a fuse tap, wire in the controller for laser jammer, mount the switches and connect the LEDs.

What do you guys think?

Could not tell from picture, but the laser jammers look like they need to be mounted more forward. Where they are right now, they will only block/jam a signal dead ahead. Moving the jammers more forward allows them to handle side angles, which is how most laser is used these days, from parked cars. I have yet to see a police laser being used in a moving vehicle.

Moving them forward has saved me from a least a dozen tickets in the past six months on the NJ turnpike.

Always test your install. It's difficult to tell just by looking at photos.

They're actually very low maintenance. Sadly, they're illegal in Texas now...

I never anticipated a cop being in a moving vehicle when using laser. Most motorcycle cops use laser on the side of the road. I would think that I would be shot with the laser at a distance where the angle is not very big, just a little more or less than 90 degrees. I will do some research though on where they are mounted. Thanks!

On a side note, I should be getting the modified circuit board back today.

What do you mean by testing my install? Gun it past a cop on the side or the road

you should be able to test the laser jammer in the first 30 seconds that you turn it on. the jammer goes through a 30second "testing" phase where if you point a tv remote at it and hit one of the buttons it should detect the infrared laser, which cops use. I have a blinder jammer myself and thats how that one operates. i have mine mounted on the grill. it is supposed to be level with the ground and completely straight (i have to fix mine too)
