Almilli,

I noticed on the diagram that you sent me that you don't depict the select button circuitry that you were talking about. Do you think it would be possible to update the drawing with that circuitry?

MacGyver,

On Microcontrollers I suppose it's just a matter of personal preference. They all do basically the same thing albeit it slightly different ways. So far the AVR is working great, although I'm sure a PIC would have worked just as well. (I've always liked to be a bit different) I'll definetly keep you posted on what we come up with. I'm hoping to finish the assembly for the resistance button programming this weekend. I'm pretty close, it detects and stores the values of the buttons, but I still have some more work to do on programming cycle and the core loop to get it fully functional.

I'm going to have to wait for my order of Digital Pots to arrive before I can complete the circuit and test it with a Sony head unit. I finally found them at digikey, they carry the Microchip variety. (I got a printed catalog in the mail yesterday, how convenient!) With the R values that David sent me it should be pretty easy to setup the D-Pots and check them with an Ohm meter before hooking up to the Sony. If I'm lucky I'll be able to bench test it enough that it will work the first try.

Yeah, I can redo the diagram to have the full schematic for the sony wired remote.

This sounds like a way better solution, long term, than the IR method. I'm quite interested in what y'all are doing here. I'm not in a position to do much to help, sadly, since the Bay Area is more than a little bit away from SD, and my days programming chips are way in my past. But count me as a for sure customer if you get it (I've got everything on hand to do the PAC mod and upgrade my system now, but haven't got a weekend free for at least a couple of weeks. )

Just my two cents, I think the quad analog switches are the way to go. Will work just like a relay for your purposes (connecting resistors to ground). Just make sure you figure in the analog switch

s2kman,
I put a schematic up on my website of the sony wired remote so you can use it to program your chip.

Thanks for the schematic. It is only a matter of time now until I get this thing working. I have most of the programming done, but I am not going to have time to work on this until I get back from vacation. I'll be picking up the project again the first week of June. As soon as I have more info, I'll be sure to post here.

I just got home from Vacation today. It's going to be later this week before I am able to get back into it, probably wed. or thu. I know all the details now and I am 95% sure I can make it work well. It is still going to take me some time on the programming. I should know more by end of next week. I can't finish it on time for your install though, sorry.

Well, I'll probably go ahead mid week this week, assuming I get this writing project caught up. But that doesn't change my interest in a more elegant solution -- so I'll follow your progress with interest.
