Default In dash monitor

Hi guys, long time member/reader first time poster, I am looking at purchasing a S2 quite soon and am just looking at making some personal mods. One in particular i am wanting to gather more info on is how some of you have put in dash monitors for dvd player's. my questions to those who have done this:

Did u purchase a replacement dash?

Did u do it yourself or is it something that you outsourced

if you did it yourself...was it difficult?

any information on this mod would be much appreciated i have attached some pics for those who have no idea what im on about...

PS: hope this post is in the right area.

Look in the electronics section. There is a huge thread on the dash cutting club.

most people outsource it.

if you are going to try to do it yourself, a replacement dash is probably a good idea.

read through s4play's thread, great pics and details.

IMO, the easiest way to put a screen in the dash is to just have a little LCD (touch)screen in the dash where ever you want it, and have it powered by a single DIN unit. if you go this route as opposed to installing a radio in the dash itself, you don't have to re-route a/c vents and all that.

Is there any way to get gps through an in dash screen then without a whole unit going in there? I might be getting one shortly but would need to have gps functionality as well as playing cd's dvd's and hopefully have a HDD for music and stuff. Don't know if any single din units have all those abilities. At least not the gps part from what I am aware.

their should be, if there is actually one in existence, i don't know. if you find a single DIN as you described, let me know...

unless something better comes out, i think i'm eventually going to get a avic-z3 installed in-dash.

Yeah thats a sweet unit. Soo much easier if I can just install a 7" screen with no unit behind it. Makes the install so much easier I am sure as you do not need to relocate things or anything like that.

^ yea i definitely agree...i think you need to find something basically like a receiver that you would have for your home system, which just processes everything, and has the ability to take inputs/commands from an external screen
