When you turn the power on the face will come out and if the radio door is closed something will break eventually. You would need to hook up a relay so that the unit is not on when the door is closed, which to me would suck as I like having the radio door closed on long distance trips so I can prop up my knee there.

I got an Alpine 9815 and I'm very happy with it, perfect flush fit when the face isn't angled and I can close the door easily. The face when angled up seems to fit perfectly in the space provided. The display is not as fancy as the 7998 biolite display but functionally does the same job. The 9815 is also the next model year from the 7998 so it has some better electronics such as the crossover.
