Diary of making better audio with questions
well, components should produce some bass, especially at a 6.5" size, but that bass will never have much of a presence, so you'll generally want a sub to get a full low fill.
and Phil doesn't always love the products that Dave loves...
i'm not a huge fan of Audiobahn amps.... but they do work for the bling bling factor...
i found the Perfect components to be bright for my tastes, but they weren't as horrible as some other speakers i've heard out there -- so, i can only tease Dave a bit there. and i have heard Infinity subs before and they are very respectible subs.
but you forgot to mention -- where's the box/enclosure in that $400 budget?
here's a thread where i cover (and b-man covers) some sub solutions for the $400 budget.

and ordered?! oh no.... i've come too late.
seriously though, with the size restrictions that you're talking about, i would strongly encourage you to consider a solution that includes one of William's sub enclosures. it would mean you'd spend a bit more (since the enclosure costs $175), but it would also give you the option to keep far more of your trunk space...
click on the Pics of Installs thread and give a look see at some of the installs there... one of William's enclosures with a moderate sub in it would require only a smallish amp, which is much easier to hide.

1st -- bling bling isn't always pretty... sorry to be so cryptic, but i figured it's a fairly common street phrase now, that comes from the rap/hip-hop culture... it's a generally used phrase that describes things that are overly flashy or shiny in an effort to look good. it can be both a bad or good thing.
if you check out Dave (NYC's) install pics in the Install Pictures thread, you'll see his setup and can judge the 'bling bling' factor for yourself.

and sorry... William is WLaurent, who is a s2ki.com frequenter and owner here. he makes an enclosure for the left and right trunk wells for the S. it's small, discreet, and very easily installed and removed.

you can find pictures and pricing for the enclosures.

Yes....but weakly......You will get much better bass with 1 10" DVC 2ohm sub. Or any SINGLE 10"
( I mean with THIS particular amp)
Phil, stop sippin the haterade....you know you like the blingage in the trunk.
