DIY: How to install component Speakers!
Just a note:
Soldering the splices is great. However, using electrical tape is not generally recommended. Go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy some quality heatshrink (Gardner-Bedner brand) and make your splice so your wires run straight, not double back on itself.

And just to add to that, if you have a good electrical supply house in your town or close to you, go in and ask for Panduit shink wrap. It is a much better product than the stuff you can buy at HD. The Garden Bedner products are very cheap... not worth what you pay for. There are even better products but not as easy to find as the Panduit brand.

so the line that was originally going to the woofer is full range? That's strange. I would have thought there would have been a low pass filter on it.
thanks to this thread, my install of infinity reference 6.5" components 6020CS went fairly smoothly as well.
i ended up purchasing the factory harness adapter from crutchfield. seems kind of lame, but i did not want to do any cutting into the OEM harness. it was worth the $20 including shipping. if you can find the mating plug cheaper, great.
so in preparation of the install, i cut the crutchfield harness at the middle of the wire. then i soldered about 40" of speaker wire on both sides of what was left. so that i had a pair of harness plugs and extended speaker spade plugs to plug right into the main "mid bass" speaker.

infinity comes with some mounting brackets. i used the metal one to fit into the OEM speaker pod. all together, it JUST fits, with just a bit of compression needed. the bracket leaves the speaker clocked at an angle a bit, but its ok.

plug the harness in and route the speaker wire also thru to the middle of the door where the door switch harness comes out.

then i opened up the infinity crossover. just two tabs on the side. this allowed access to the mounting holes. and i used the small screwdriver i had to punch a hole (didnt need a drill) and use some screws to hold it down. put the cover back on.

tweeter install is just as easy as shown above. i used krazy glue as well.
tape the wires up as nicely as possible. (not really)

just want to say thanks and i also recommend that crutchfield harness.
i also would like to add that im now a believer that OEM speakers relaly do suck. ok, theyre not horrible, but these components are MUCH better. after installing just one side, i did a L/R test and definately could hear the difference. and am now enjoying a lot more bass with less distortion. i do hear SLIGHTLY a bit of hiss at quiet moments, but not a big deal when driving im sure. and i think im going ot use the -3db crossover option for the tweeter. but otherwise, im really happy i replaced the stock 02 speakers.
i have a pioneer DEH-7600MP head unit btw.

Can you PM me, thx bro
It is a great write up. I used it this weekend when I upgraded the stocks tweeters and woofers. Have an Alpine head unit in with some upgraded Alpine speakers in. Not looking to amp or sub, so what I have works perfect for my needs. Still need a few more days to break in, but already sounding much better than the stock system.
