Dome Lights
Hey everyone, looking for some guidance. Currently running into the issue where on the off position, my lights are off. On door they are bright and the on position, they are even brighter. The issue comes up on the door position, when you close the door (or mess with the switch); the passenger side shuts off and the driver side is dimmed. They are LEDs from Amazon and I have tried a set from sylvania. Both have the same issue. Before spending the money on another set of leds or door switches, what do you recommend or what could it be? I have cleaned the contacts on both switches and map light per diy thread.
My 09 did exactly what you mentioned. I went to my schematics and tried to figure it out. Inside the switch assembly it has diodes and of course the switch with three positions. After exhaustive amount of time studying the schematics and taking readings with my multi meter I came to the conclusion that Honda designed their light assembly to work properly with incandescent bulbs instead of LED bulbs. In my opinion I believe the internal resistance of the incandescent bulbs element is part of the circuits proper operation. An LED bulb throws it off. I reinstalled the original bulbs. I don't think about it anymore. It just doesn't work with LED bulbs on my 09. Maybe earlier model years might work.
That’s probably one thing I didn’t check now that I think about it. Definitely will work on the terminals today.
If it doesn’t work, then I’ll try going back to the incandescent bulbs. Sucks but whatever.
I appreciate it.

LEDs work fine in my 2006 dome lights. But they're neither "Amazon" nor "Ebay" brand bulbs but from @JS2k.com a vendor who supports this forum. Try them. Not sure if model year makes any difference. I recall I also have backup LED bulbs from them.
LEDs can be troublesome to fit in some applications. Completely unrelated but when I put LEDs in my kitchen range hood (did I write "unrelated?") they remained On at a very dim state when switched Off. Makes a great night light so I left them in place. Sometimes just reversing them works. Sometimes.

In my son's CV-R, this would happen. We cleaned the switch on the light housing with Deoxit. Problem solved.
DeoxIT D5 spray.

Thanks everyone, seems like I got it to work. Followed the advice on the cleaning with the Dioxit, but went with a WD40 brand as that's all there was here. Removed everything, sprayed it down. Messed with the driver side door switch to make sure everything was able to make contact. Put the Amazon LEDs, nada. Still dimming. Tried a set of incandescent bulbs, and it worked. Oddly enough, I tried it with my Sylvania LED bulbs and it worked too. Going to monitor it for the next few days. If it works, great. If not, either go back to the incandescent bulbs or order from js2k.

I did the same thing except didn't clean any contacts. Just by swapping bulbs seemed to work for a short time then it acted up again. Mostly the drivers side. Then it would work its way to the passenger side. Sometimes it was very dim and it got brighter over time. It's like there are electrical gremlins floating around. I hope whatever is causing this can be figured out. Unfortunately Honda has different schematics for different block of years.
