Default speaker spacer

I am having a hell of a time right now with something so simple. Trying to install new speakers....does the speaker spacer go between the speaker and the basket or the door and the basket? The speaker does not fit in the basket so I assume it fits between the basket and the speaker to allow the proper space to make it fit? No holes pre drilled in the spacer make this simple task hard as Heck.

Well there is three pieces so that doesn't work.
Speaker basket. Speaker spacer and speaker.

The included speaker spacer or adapter.....is that needed? I have a 3/4 inch after market spacer. I thought the included spacer with the speakers would go between the speaker and the basket to make the room needed for the speaker to fit in the basket but I think I am just suppose to cut the basket and use the after market spacer between the door and the basket.....

Generally people either cut the back of the basket and use it alone,
in the case of speakers where the magnet won't fit in the basket but the
depth is ok (doesn't hit the window), or eliminate the stock basket
completely and use an MDF or other spacer alone to mount the speaker.

Many people use foam speaker baffles for weather protection.

You can always cut out the bottom and you'll still get drip protection without
reducing the size of your speaker enclosure (door). Same idea as the OEM slotted
speaker basket.
