drilling firewall
i drilled a small hole through the firewall of my friends car to run a amp power wire. was this a bad thing to do? what problems could he run into in the future?
It is a rubber bushing that does a couple things: First, it provides a buffer so the power cable will not rub on the nice sharp edge you created when you drilled the hole, and it also provides a seal to keep water, bugs etc out of the passenger cabin. If you run the cable through a hole without a gromet, it WILL short out in no time! That cable moves more than you could imagine.
the grommets are available at any hardware store worth their salt. Get one propperly sized for both the hole and wire. It should not be loose around the edges (should make a tight seal with firewall hole) and the hole in the grommet itslef should not be overly large compared t the wire so that it makes a decent seal.

If you used the proper size gromet, it will be fine.

whats a gromet?

Also, if you had looked at the FAQ you would see that there is already an easy way to get a power wire through the firewall with an exisiting grommeted hole.
