Default Drop in tweeter?

Any 02 owners change out the stock tweeter? And if you buy a three way speaker do you still keep the separate tweeter connected?

I can answer the first part of your question. Yes, I, and others, have changed-out the stock tweeter. I have Focal tweeters in mine. I actually drilled-out the faux grill and put the Focal tweeter cup in the stock location. It looks quite nice.

If you install new speakers (non-component), you could always listen to the sound w/ and w/out the stock tweeters connected and see which way sounds better. Just kind of hang the door panel back up (w/out re-installing it all the way) between test listens.

This is the first time I've added pics, so I hope they come out alright. I believe they are the TN45s, if that's what comes w/ the 165K2s. I can't move the tweeter at all. I assume this method is better than using the stock grill (didn't try it first), based on how much more transparent the Focal grill looks. However, I have the tweeter level (on the crossover) set to -4dB, so I probably would've been OK using the stock tweeter grill and upping the tweeter level (-2dB or 0dB) to compensate for any loss in output. If I could do it again, I'd probably at least give the stock grills a chance before drilling them out, considering how powerful these tweeters turned-out to be.

Nice pics! You did the right thing, I'm going to do the same soon. I don't like the stock grill cause it has a very thick mesh pattern and I belive that distorts the sound. Try putting something, like a finger, on the tweeter grill and move it on the grill back and forth and see how it changes the sound.

Thanks, guys. I was so proud when I did it last summer, but I didn't have a way to post the pics. Now that I'm a member, I just added them to my album here at s2ki.com.

Anyway, I know what you mean, mas, about moving my hand (haven't tried a single finger) in front of the tweeter. I can get some nice wah-wah effects (You guitar players know what I'm talking about. Well, I guess a lot of people know what wah-wah sounds like; the name says it all.).
