Default Earmark Quote, Is this good or bad.

I'm still doing research online, but I went by Earmark Car Audio today in Richardson for a quote and to talk about amps. This is what they gave me. I'm going for a Kenwood head unit because I already have a music keg that will go where my stock cd changer is now.

Earmark has worked on a fair number of S2000s.

KDC MP 919 Head Unit: $479.99
I know I can get a X557 or X757 for much cheaper from millionbuy, but they were telling me that buying a Kenwood head unit over the net doesn't necessarily mean it has a warranty. I think they thought I was going to go shopping on EBay. Any info on this?

PX T400.4 AMP $449.98
They also quoted the KAC-749 at $249.99
I don't know a lot about amps...in fact this is probably by weakest area.

Front Speakers:
JL XR65005i $319.99
They said that I didn't need speakers behind the seat if I had good fronts. These are components. They will do a custom install in the door. Has anyone used these?

Subwoofer
JL Stealthbox #94062, S2000 Model $599.99
An expensive woofer, but this one is customized for the S2000. Installs in the trunk well.

Misc wiring components including the swix was also listed. Labor is $330.00

So I need to hunt around more. Does anyone know if these prices are good? They had a really high end set of fronts they wanted me to pick up for $450.00, but that seems a little steep. I don't doubt their quality, but I don't need 100% high end equipment.

Any feedback or experience would be nice. Thanks.

the labor sounds a bit high - they're charging you MSRP (which is far) on the electronics - but $330... hmm let's see... yeah about $75-100 too high - and the warranty issue is one worth considering - most internet sites are not authorized dealers, and as such, sometimes have a problem with warranty work. sometimes. but often enough for me to take it seriously.

I expected installation to be a little high. These guys were recommended from members of the North Texas S2000 club. I would rather pay a little more and get a quality install than have some kid who is working on sound during highschool take care of it.

Nonetheless, I'll poke around online and compare a few prices....

I know buying car audio online doesn't always mean u get a warranty, however when an online vendors prices are considerably lower, it makes it a touch decision (At least for me). Take for instance, the Kenwood mp919 u were talking about. Earmark sells it for $519.59 (After tax), however online vendors sell that exact same model for as low as $309 shipped UPS ground (www.carmedia1.com). That's $210 cheaper !

If u do get that JL Audio sub/box, can u please post your impressions on it?

Sorry to go a little OT on the thread but I finished instaling my JL stealthbox over the weekend. I love it! The fit and finish is everything you'd expect from JL and the quality of trim on the box is very nice.

Sound wise, its pretty awesome, I'm running it off a JL 500/5 amp with 250W into the sub (also rated 250W) and has way more bass capacity then I'll ever need. Very nice tight punchy bass and it makes its way into the cabin just fine

There are some pic's of the install preperations here:

JL install

I'll add some more of the sub & amp "in-situ" in the next couple of days.

One thing though - the cover panel I got off JL with the sub is trimmed in the same material as the box itself, a very dark (almost black) colour and not the same as that shown on the JL website I'll be interested to see how other people fare and maybe flag this up to JL as it doesn't match the S2000 boot carpet very well at all...
