Elemental Designs GB - Testing the water
Ok - so I talked to Ben at eD about reviving the e8a product line or a suitable replacement. He sounded very interested in doing something with us and had a few ideas.
The first option would be to step up the production run on the e8a replacement - the 9Ov.2. This would be a much more efficient driver that would work well with 250W+ of power, were as the e8a really did not start stroking until the 350W+ range. The 9Ov.2 will also provide a little lower frequency response than the e8a.

The second option would be to revive the e8a for a limited run. The main problem with the e8a option is that some of the parts for sub are no longer available - so a different cone would likely be required.
The third option would be to wait for them to finish the 9Kv.2. This is their lower cost line of subs and they were planning to go into production around January 2005.

These subs will not have nearly the same cone excursion as the Ov.2 - nor deliver nearly as much SPL.
The fourth option would be for eD to send me a 11Kv.2 (10") sub to try a fitment on. Should work well in a small sealed enclosure with some poly fill
For options 1 and 2 eD would like a min. order of 35. The argument is that they will have to buy parts for 100, and build a minimum of 50 in the beggining.
The price of either option would be $145 each. Free shipping would be included in the Ov.2 option, but an upcharge on the e8a option. Once the orders were placed it would be ~90 days before they would be shipping.
For option 3, The price will be in the $75-85 range. Availability date is early 2005
For the last option I would need to get a sub and test it for fitment. I think it would work, but would not know until I have the sub in hand and can fit it in the enclosure and see how it sounds.
Post here if you have interest in any of the options. Please identify which options you would be interested in. If you need an enclosure please also identify that in your post.
I will update this thread/post with the list of interested parties.

I will follow suit with the option you believe will produce the highest quality sound.
I do not have the experience to know what makes the e8A so special. If you believe we can approach or improve on eD's original design utilizing your enclosures, I am in. I look forward to owning the 'WLaurent Custom'.
