Default Escort 8500 cord question...

I had my escort installed at a stereo shop and they said that the cord was too thick to run along the top of the windshield and mount it beside the rear view mirror were I originally wanted it. After doing some research on this website I have found out that they were just lazy. So, I was wondering if I can just go to radio shack and buy some phone cord and a female-female adapter and extend the original cord so that I can mount it beside the rear view mirror? Thanks in advance guys.

Yes, you can. Or, check at Best Buy and pick up their Universal Radar Detector Wire Kit. It comes with a plug that will fit your Escort (2.5mm) and enough wire to to run along the windshield down into the cabin.

Basically, you'll be re-wiring the detector yourself (like you should have done in the first place ). I would suggest running new wire versus splicing and soldering into existing, but either method will work.

There are instructions for getting to power and ground in the S2000 how-to FAQ.

I suggest that you get the hardwire smart cord from the passport site. It is about 30-40 bucks if I can remember. It has really long wires so you don't have to buy any extra cords. You wont lose your mute button if you go this way. This is where i mounted mine

p.s. sorry for the big pictures..don't have time to resize
