if you're budget is flexible enough -- this amp, the Phoenix Gold Tantrum 600.4, also carries an excellent reputation, but i've never heard one myself. it's also a good bit more. i think InsaneInNC has this amp...

regarding the Xtant:
William (WLaurent) has spoken highly of it in several places.

i've heard a couple Xtant amps at a local store and was impressed... but i can't say that i've owned one or had serious listening time w/ one.

i do know that they have had a long standing reputation of excellent amps. the only shop in my area that carries them (that i know of) is the high end shop that does the serious exotic installs.

here are a few other links w/in S2ki that talk about Xtant amps... i just searched based on Xtant, and i'm linking anyone who comments on that particular amp. you may have to wade through the thread a bit... sorry.

it's your thread... you're driving baby, so we go where you want to...

just let me out before we get to the all male review...

i just don't know whether the PG amp will be better or worse. i do know that the Xtant normally retails for more than the PG, but the PG is no slouch. try giving InsaneInNC a PM and see what his feedback is...

mmmm.... donuts.

Boston Creme for me please.

I dont have much knowledge/hands on with XTANT (although their reputation is good), I do have lots of experience with PG, mainly the titanium line of amps. They are fantastic, and are well worth the money.....

and remember, ITS JUST MONEY.

Good luck bro......

hey...Z06killer... where are your amps? Are the subs in a box or just mounted on the board?

Another route you could go is the Sounds Stream Van Gogh 400.2. It's 400w x 1 @ 4 ohms and measures 11.2

They got Tarantulas on EBAY for mid 300's. Thats an amp and a half. The subs are back on EBAY too, raised the price a bit......169 for a 10", but worth it!

Woohoo! Went ahead and bought today: Alpine CDA-9813, Boston Rally components, and Phoenix Gold Tantrum 600.4. I'm ordering an ED e8a and wlaurent enclosure tonight to match. They were actually able to start right in on the rest of the stuff and I can plug in the sub when that gets in. Before I left this evening, they managed to get the PG installed vertically next to the spare tire -- just barely enough room, but they did a brilliant job. Pics and impressions to come....
