I just installed the CDT's last week. A few points of advice:

Cutting the baskets dont allow the CDT to drop right in. The OEM speaker is not a true 6.5. It's a 'euro' size. I did cut the oem basket (use a heat gun and exacto) and used long wood screws to force the speaker to fit. It works fine. This does require some trimming off of the door panel (the inside seal, again, heatgun and exacto).

As far as i can tell, the lead to the OEM tweeter and OEM woofer are the same signals. The OEM tweeter has an in-line highpass filter. Mine is disabled for the tweeter. I ran the woofer line right into the xover, which i mounted in the protector pocket on the inside of the door trim. Requires some cutting to fit (heatgun!). My final install came out perfect. U cant tell at all there are aftermarket speakers in at all. good luck

Um ... "weatherstripping" ... great, appreciate the advice ... if I could ask for a bit more where that comes from! Open cell foam? closed cell foam? firm? soft? most appreciated and thanks in advance.

Weatherstripping or foam tape. Available at your local Home Depot or Lowe's.

r_duff: Did you install the CL-61 components? They really look like they will fit.. What year is your S2K? (Maybe they changed something and we'll get lucky) Where your factory mid-ranges blue?

yes, no, 2003, and yes. You cant omit the factory baffle completely, cuz your cl-61 magnet will prevent the window from goin all the way down. You need that space that the baffle provides. This makes the speaker stick out maybe 1/2 inch further than factory, so it requires cutting for the inside door trim. Otherwise that 'O' shaped ring on the inside trim hits the speaker, and makes the door trim fit like crap. You'll see the "o" shaped thing when you take the skin off. (its on the other side of the grillle)

Oh yeah, so you just hacked off the back of the basket, then trimmed down the O shaped thing on the back of the grille on the door panel, right? That is all, right? Yeah, we knew we'd most likely have to shave that down a little.. How much did you shave it down? We were thinking about 1/2". It's taller on one side, so maybe make it smooth to the shortest side?

Yeah. 1/2 in is fine. just test fit the trim panel, then shine a flash light thru the grille to see how much. (it depends on how big your basket hole is, which determines how far your new speakers will stick out).
