Yes, there are different levels of crossovers, but a crossover is not a crossover... The capacitor on the oem tweeter is nothing like the passive crossover that comes with components. True, it does filter frequencies, but so does a "bass blocker".

If a crossover were a crossover, do you think speaker companies would waste money on these larger crossovers and more expensive parts, if it didn't provide any value?

You are correct. It is mounted inline up near the tweeter. If you want to bypass it, just splice into the wire somewhere before it of just cut the wire going to the stock tweeter. If you take the door panel off and look at the tweeter, you can see the capacitor in there near where it mounts.
Thanks for the info. I was searching if this was the case before I take my door panel appart. So if I was to replace my OEM door setup with real component speakers. I should use the leads from the mid-bass speaker and run to crossover then to the proper components? Just wondering how the current tweater spices off the main speaker inputs.

Cutting the baskets dont allow the CDT to drop right in. The OEM speaker is not a true 6.5. It's a 'euro' size. I did cut the oem basket (use a heat gun and exacto) and used long wood screws to force the speaker to fit. It works fine. This does require some trimming off of the door panel (the inside seal, again, heatgun and exacto).
What size exactly are we talking about? Both width and depth?

EDIT - Found the info here - https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=13187

Oh great info here - http://users.rcn.com/dhintz/Michelle/Audio/audio.html
