I like this units features, but I just don't like the aluminum look (I know I am superficial!) How are MP3 tracks displayed? I have seen that the display of some is limited to 8 characters of the filename (truncates it like an MSDOS filename), as well as some restrictions to the number of folders/subfolders. Does it have a random play feature for MP3 CD's as well?
Pinky - how does your mod work with the head unit's door closed? One thing I do not like about the PAC is that it must be mounted inside the door somehow in order to use the dash controls. Has anyone come up with a better way? I guess it all depends on where the IR receiver on the head unit is right?

The JVS will display id3 tags and has an auto scroll feature.. it scrolls all the info, or up to a 32 character file name. No limit on the id3 tag stuff (that I know of). Its a pretty cool display and I think the volume knob is awsome, (I never really use it, but its still cool
I have the PAC IR on the bottom right, since the door is closed 99% of the time I never see it. Even when the door is open NO one has ever noticed it. Its so snuggly between the hea unit and the panel that you would have to know where to look to see it. I only open the door to switch between radio and mp3s (I've only done this 4 times in 6 weeks, I always get fed up with the radio and switch back to my disk).
I actually LOVE the look of the JVC, it complemets the car very well, especially with the alum. shift knob right in fron of it.

Gold,
How did you assign the remote control buttons on the console? If you have to use the HU buttons to switch between radion and CD, what are you using the mode button on the remote for?
Can you mute the unit with the remote button? The deck's wireless remote does not have the mute, does it?
Regards,
JL

The car's mode button is for Radio station presets which is also directory forward for MP3 cd's, and I believe its next disk for the CD changer (I don't have the changer).
I left he mute button out of my controls... It was way too much work to do anything with it, however, now that I have an amp, I could wire it to the remote turn on and off (using the relay), that would work real good. The JVS has no mute wire, so if you are using the internal amp your screwed.
There is an ATT on the remote which drops it 20 steps on the volume. But I wanted to use my CH and Mode buttons for seeking and searching. Since I never really leave Mp3 mode this is quite convenient.

JL,
The mute button is a separate circuit from the PAC, so you could use the mute on a new head and still forget the rest of the controls (never buying a PAC in the process). See my webpage for how the relay hooks up to the dash controls to work the mute with aftermarket heads.
