HUGE difference... i was thinking that maybe i will be needing to upgrade the speakers as well..BUT the head unit makes a dramatic difference...
btw this is a 03 model... the head unit change was good enough for me...

Now, turn it up REAL loud....then you will see the problem with the speakers. MY03 speakers were slightly better (higher power handling......I think), but are no comparison for aftermarket speakers.

If you are OK with cutting some MDF spacers, I got my Blaupunkt ODCa660 components from www.ikesound.com for $60 + shipping (retail $195). They make the HU sound 10x better. Much better mid-bass response, especially w/ top down on interstate.

You just THINK it's enough. Just wait a week or two, you'll be itching to put in some new speakers. Then you'll realize those new speakers, though they sound better, need more power, so then comes your amp. A month later (I'm still in that month ) You'll realize that the midbass from the doors isn't hitting low enough so it's time for a 10" sub in the trunk, at which point you need a bigger amp....

You get the idea.

Or you went to a local meet with fellow S2k onwers, and listen to their upgraded systems, then you want more for your S. It will never ended.
