Sorry if this is a silly question but would fitting an aftermarket PANASONIC ar stereo render the stereo controls on my 2000 S2000 useless or is there an industry standard communication to all stereos??

Go over to the electronics forum for a wealth of information. There is not an industry standard interface, but there is an intermediate adapter setup.

I've been using a PAC-3 unit for three years and it works well enough that I've forgotten it wasn't OEM.
