Stereo stores that sell cabling etc will have cable like your looking for. It's made to fit under carpets or inside wall mouldings. I believe it comes in 4/6/8 conductor lines.

Before everyone goes making suggestions, what is the wire for? How many conductors?

He said he was mounting the screen in the visor and the controls on the radio door.... clearly its a very low voltage circuit. It doesn't matter how many conductors it is... if you need more than what they sell double it up.

My point being, if it's for a display, that usually involves a lot of conductors (sometimes 40 or more)... would you really want 20 separate wires to deal with? Kind of tough to keep them flat when there's so many of them bunched up together.

thanks for all the good suggestions. it has been a few months since i took it apart so i can't remember exactly how many conductors there are. it's probably no more than 12 or so, when i am free next week, i will take another look. i searched the net for flat flexible cables, but usually i get directed to manufacturers that sell them in bulk. i didnt find them on radio shack's website, and those stereo cables are too big for that little LCD screen. thanks for your suggestions though.

When you determine how many you need, go to http://www.DigiKey.com and look at flex cables made by Parlex. You won't need to order 5' worth, just a strip long enough to go between the hinge and door... the rest of the way you can use standard cable.
