I just put 6.5" MB Quarts in about three weeks ago and they sound great, but the sound quality just doesn't hold up when I crank them up while on the freeway. I don't recommend them for our cars but I'm planning to take them out eventually and put them in my gf's Camry...heehee.

As to the other of your original questions, it's usually not possible and/or advisable to bridge channels of HUs. Plus, most component sets are designed to run at 4ohm anyway.
While even the best HU amp is still going to be weak relative to a reasonably priced external amp, you might as well give whatever component set you settle on a try with the HU to see how you like it.
philbert's on point as usual. I decided to fore-go the sub in trunk well for now (might be a short term thing, who knows).
the focals are amazing, but just like a large, good monitor - they can bring out the best, and worst, in recordings. i'm finding that some of the stuff on my iPod sounds great - and other stuff not so much. it has as much to do w/ the original as it is with the MP3 quality (and my new-found ear piercing volume).
Grunge just sounds grungy no matter what, but isn't that the idea?
I haven't heard the poly's firsthand so I can't comment on their brightness. I used the switches on the KRX2's x-overs to tone down mine - at least during the break-in period. Might go back and fiddle later on. Can't recall if the poly's have those settings or not (surely they have something).
