Default Front Defogger and A/C

Hi Guys,

I just bought an 06 rio s2k. Any reason why the front defogger and a/c turns on simultaneously but does not give you the option to turn off the a/c? If I select any other fan setting, I am able to turn off A/C.

I'll bring it to service if this is not normal.

Thanks,
Vin

It is normal. Many cars do this. Maybe someone else can chime in as to why, but it has to do with not creating more condensationon the inside of the glass, as the A/C actually removes moisture from the air.

There is also a procedure you can do to defeat this function, try reading through this thread:

It can be disabled, but then your window won't defrost as fast. The A/C simply removes the moisture from the air.

It's a common misconception that A/C automatically means cold air, it means moisture free air. This speeds up the defrosting process exponentially

turning the a/c on helps dehumidify the car that causes the window to fog up

I ran across a need this week to not have the A/C on; I just wanted the air flow coming from the top vents, not the face vents.
